Oliver N. Madison was just your ordinary Pacifican investigator from Los Angeles up until a fateful encounter with a bee made him realize a terrible, unmistakable truth: his entire world was fake. Ever since then, his keen eyes couldn’t stop seeing the ever-worsening glitches, his fellow citizens’ memories constantly wiped clean of both them and worse yet: him. Oliver was reduced to a pathetic, lonely shell—taunted by God, he thought. Until he met an enigmatic entity simply named ‘M’—a self-described demiurge (and devilish creep) who revealed that not only was his world some ‘complex simulation’ whatever-a-place, it was also dying. Declaring him the solution (without elaboration), with a snap of a finger M dropped him (butt naked) straight into Nexus, another ‘fake’ world broken in its own way. Forced to play M’s game, equipped with a nifty interface doodad and shooter from Mars, Oliver must survive a harsh basin left ruined by a past catastrophe; inhabited by desperate wildlife, less-than-friendly ‘players’, and a crumbling System losing control. Iteration after iteration, he pushes himself forward fueled by one single goal: he will break out into the Real World. Additional tag(s): Alternate History, Eco-Fiction, Metafiction, Noir. Traffic and conversion both sit mid-field for a story this size. Growth here compounds from consistency: steady cadence feeds traffic, and a sharper hook lifts what each view is worth.
At this conversion, the Psychological Rising Stars bar (≈2 new followers/day) costs about 391 views/day — the story currently gets ~169.
Benchmarks: 8,060 active Royal Road stories, percentiles within the 50–149 chapters band, cohort of 2026-07-02. Conversion is measured as followers gained per 1,000 views over the recent window.
