In the Great Confederation of the First Era, the Palace of Avthalon was once a pinnacle of martial training. Today, it ranks 250th, surviving solely on a single attraction: an eight-meter shard—the remnant of an ancient entity—whose thermal radiation can melt any known metal. Ridhin only wants to study and build a quiet life. But after being assigned to Corpllum, a discipline despised for relying strictly on human flesh, he resolves to prove he is far from useless. His training pushes him to the very edge of the shard. And he discovers he can endure it. The fragment’s energy begins to transform his body, awakening a power no one in Avthalon can comprehend. When the Colosseum of Amaggdhor forces the decaying academy to compete once more against the Great Palaces of the Confederation, Ridhin gets his chance to prove his worth. Yet the tournament will be only the beginning. For behind the Confederation’s grandeur lies a far vast world—and Ridhin is about to realize that even the greatest prodigies are insignificant compared to what dwells beyond.
