Everyone wants a class. His patients want theirs removed. Iven Rook is an unlicensed soul surgeon running a clinic beneath an abandoned bathhouse. His patients rarely have enough money. Their classes rarely want to leave. In Veyr, a class turns experience into power. But the organisms providing those abilities have appetites, and the city has found ways to make their hosts pay. When a courier arrives with a class collecting memories of her little brother, Iven has to go inside her soul to stop it. Waiting for him is a flooded terminal, a toll collector built like a siege engine, and a queue of memories being consumed one payment at a time. He brings a surgical blade, a hooked mallet, and an increasingly unreasonable commitment to keeping his patient alive. The operation leaves him with an illegal organ that can be purified into a skill. It also produces an experience reward credited to an organization that should have nothing to do with his clinic. Following that payment could expose what the city is growing inside its citizens. Surviving the investigation will require better equipment, dangerous grafts, and people willing to trust a surgeon whose own past is part of the evidence. Expect: Physical boss battles inside distinctive soul worlds. Harvested skill organs, surgical crafting, and experimental builds. Tactical abilities with exploitable limits and lasting costs. A capable but vulnerable protagonist and an ensemble with their own priorities. Body horror, institutional conspiracy, and dry humor.
