For nearly a decade, Mira Salvatore has never forgotten a pocket watch she first saw through a pawnshop window as a child. Now, after six months of skipping meals, selling her belongings, and working overtime, she finally has enough money to buy it. The watch is old, its brass case scratched and worn, with a faded compass rose and a small pink diamond set into its face. To everyone else, it's just an antique. To Mira, it is something she's spent years trying to possess. But when she finally brings the watch home, strange things begin to surface—memories she can't explain, feelings she can't place, and a connection to the watch that seems to reach far beyond the day she first saw it. Mira thought she was buying the watch. She doesn't yet realize what the watch has been waiting for.
