Red Ridinghood — Chapter 1: Peter and the Wolf Ten years before Red beging her Journey in Torva Vitae, five-year-old Red secretly follows her older brother, Peter Ridinghood, into the forest during an important tribal trial. What begins as an innocent adventure between siblings turns dangerous when Red is injured, forcing ten-year-old Peter to rely on everything his father, Amarok, has taught him to get his little sister home safely. Their path leads Peter to ancient ruins hidden deep within Ridinghood territory and a mysterious blood-red horn that should not be there. When a frightened child's voice seems to call to him from within it, Peter ignores the warnings surrounding the artifact and sounds the horn. Something answers. Red awakens later to a forest covered in ash, Peter missing, and a search party—including her father—dead. Injured and alone, she eventually encounters the creature she initially believes may have slaughtered them: an enormous black wolf with sapphire-blue eyes. Instead of killing her, the wolf carries Red home. Three days later, while recovering at her grandmother's cottage and learning that her mother is still searching for Peter, Red finally meets the mysterious wolf that has refused to leave her side. His name is Mal. Peter's disappearance leaves the Ridinghood family shattered, but Red's encounter with Mal begins a bond that will change both of their lives.
