Longwind is a fantasy serial about a man who wakes up inside a novel he has already read twice—in the body of its villain. Aren Aurelian is the Sage-King's son, byname Snowwater, and in the book he is the man who keeps the heir of the Nine Marches locked in a cellar and steeps his blood for medicine. The heir, Corrin, is not a forgiving sort. In the original ending, he tears free, builds himself a new body, comes back for Aren, and burns his soul for two hundred years. Aren has the system to help. Deuce is precise, unimpressed, and legally barred from making anything easy. It reports time in world, coordinates, debuffs, and the occasional reminder that Aren is not the hero of this story. It does not give him a sword. What he has instead is a curse that opens thirteen petals before it kills him, a covenant mark that binds Corrin with rules and exceptions, and a captive who is also the only source of the medicine keeping Aren's borrowed body alive. The serial is a slow, sharp fantasy with visible progression, bureaucratic afterlife comedy, and a relationship built on debt, old violence, and the fact that neither man can afford to let the other die. It is not a power fantasy. Aren's wins cost him. Corrin's kindnesses are not safe. I wrote it for readers who like a system that talks back and a romance that has to earn its ending.
