Eli Weller’s biggest problem on a February morning in Kenosha was having to shovel the sidewalk twice. Then Nora Kessler - the girl three houses down - walked into the snow wearing a magical dress, argued with a talking raccoon, and tried to stop a slush monster from eating a recycling bin.
Apparently, Nora is the magical girl responsible for keeping southeastern Wisconsin’s supernatural problems under control. Unfortunately, the magic has a few design flaws: her transformation outfit has no insulation, her familiars are raccoons, and her emergency transportation is her grandmother’s 2004 Buick LeSabre.
When Eli gets pulled into Nora’s secret life, ordinary errands become supernatural incidents, suburban streets develop impossible addresses, and the things lurking farther west start getting stranger. Between school, snow shoveling, magical emergencies, and a friendship neither of them quite knows what to do with, Eli discovers that saving the world can look surprisingly similar to helping your neighbor get home.
