In the year 20XX, the world has entered an— Era of Thinkers. Power alone isn’t enough to survive it. Sixteen-year-old Lucian Kotsu is a wanted Rogue Innovator living beyond the comfort of ordinary society. Armed with an unusual mind, a heavily modified pair of glasses, and a katana named Nameless, Lucian has gotten rather good at one thing: staying alone. That’s intentional. In a civilization protected by the watchful Irises, ordinary humans live safely beneath the Bastion Spire, while those possessing the mysterious force known as Vektor play by very different rules. Power can be extraordinary—but brute force has consequences, and those who understand the rules can be far more dangerous than those who simply break them. Lucian understands that better than most. But when a strange Gambler fleeing the same people hunting Lucian discovers his hidden home, one reluctant act of kindness begins expanding his carefully isolated world. Soon, surviving won’t be enough. Beyond the Irises lie the Sunder-Lands, the mysterious Frontier, and traces of a history that doesn’t match the one humanity was taught. And the further Lucian travels, the more one fact becomes impossible to ignore: The world isn’t what it claims to be. To discover what lies beyond its boundaries, Lucian will have to do something considerably more troublesome than fighting. He’ll have to let people in. THE FRONTIER EXPANSE A psychological strategy-battle shonen about intelligence, uncertainty, connection—and what happens when people begin questioning the rules of their world.
