Viet is thirty, an architect, and painfully average at almost everything. After years of drifting through the construction industry, taking on whatever jobs paid the bills and telling himself he would eventually figure out what he actually wanted, he finally hits a wall. Then something strange happens. A company called Early Bird Co., Ltd. is registered under his name. The problem is, Viet doesn’t remember creating it. He does remember drawing a strange little bird in an old sketchbook after another miserable day at work. He remembers writing the words EARLY BIRD beneath it. He does not remember the note that appeared on his desk the next morning. START A COMPANY. And he definitely doesn’t remember filling out the paperwork. As Viet tries to understand what exactly he has created, the different parts of himself begin taking on lives of their own—his ambition, creativity, anxiety, exhaustion, practicality, and all the other voices that have spent years arguing inside his head. Unfortunately, they are just as confused about adulthood as he is. Now Viet has a company he never planned to start, a career he isn’t sure he wants, bills that remain annoyingly real, and an increasingly questionable number of people living inside his life. Somewhere between deadlines, burnout, money problems, 5 a.m. ideas, and trying to build something that actually belongs to him, Viet might finally figure out what kind of life he wants. Or Early Bird might go bankrupt first.
