The fog takes people. Their families remember the empty places, but not who stood there. King Reinhold Lionheart remembers those he knew. At a hundred and eighteen, he still fights at the front of his own soldiers, carrying names the oath of his crown forbids him to speak. Fire keeps his kingdom alive. Villages ring themselves with lamps at dusk, and travelers follow lit stages from one gate to the next. But the fog rises more often each year. Now a village on the southern road has fallen silent, and Reinhold rides out with a handful of his own men to learn what happened. The trail leads to things that walk beneath the ground by day and come out wearing human faces at night. As the Longest Night approaches, the poor begin to call Reinhold the prince of an old prophecy. Then the dark turns toward him. What to expect - An old warrior-king who leads from the front - People erased from memory, and the names he refuses to lose - Dangerous journeys, hard-won battles, and a mystery closing in on the Longest Night- Slow burn
