Dr. Sally Krugar is working on an experimental system that could purify even the most contaminated water reserves and potentially save millions of lives. Then the dreams and visions begin. She sees dry towns fighting over the last remaining water, poisoned rivers, and a world being pushed toward a breaking point. Coordinates and a countdown timer also appear in her dreams, ticking toward a deadline she can’t explain. At first, she believes they are nightmares brought on by the pressure of her work. But the visions become harder to dismiss when pieces of them begin appearing in her waking life. Sally finds solace in the one person who seems to understand her turmoil - her childhood best friend, Mika. As the line between imagination and reality thins, she discovers that the threat is more than planetary, it is also personal. The closer she gets to the answers, the more everything she knew, her marriage, and her sanity begin to collapse. Abyssal Undercurrents is the first story in Gaea’s Awakening.
