by Silent Hum
Somnarys is an island at the edge of the North Atlantic, where the fog never quite lifts and the crows are always watching. Everyone here knows the truth: the world is the dream of something vast and sleeping. Its five Heralds walk the fog in animal shapes. Its crows see everything, and its archivists write down every name. The people pay for magic with their memories, and the whole country lowers its voice at dusk so the Dreamer won't wake. These are not stories about heroes. They're about the people who live here anyway: a clerk who seals her brother's name forever, a cook who serves the head of the church the poorest porridge in the city, a bus driver on the last route through the marsh before the bell, a healer choosing which memory to give up for a stranger's heart. They didn't choose to live beside gods. They learned how. They keep each other's names, feed the crows, and when the dark gets too close, they hum. A collection of standalone short stories, released weekly. The world of Somnarys is my own creation. The stories prose is written with AI, based on my setting and direction. If you like my setting, you're free to write any stories you want, short or long. If you have any questions about the setting (especially things not yet covered in the chapters already out), feel free to ask me. You don't have to credit me or ask for permission. This whole project was meant for me and me alone at the start, but the more stories I wrote, the more I loved it, and I thought someone else might like it too. The one and ONLY thing I ask is that if you write something set in Somnarys, please shoot me a message so I can read it too :)
