by Apex or NOTHING
Power decides where you stand. Most people live beneath it. Above them are the Apexes: humans bonded to God Remnant Cores, sentient remnants left behind by dead gods. Each Core carries power enough to turn its bearer into something beyond ordinary humanity, and the strongest Apexes carve their authority into territories, cities and the people forced to live in their shadow. Above every Apex sits one final authority. The Throne Holder. There is only one road to the Throne. Defeat Apexes. Claim their Cores. Carry ten. Ten God Remnant Cores grant an Apex the right to challenge the Throne Holder. Win, and the Throne is theirs. It is the oldest and simplest law in the world: The strongest stands highest. Zorren Eltrax has always considered that convenient. He already thinks he’s the strongest bastard in whatever room he’s standing in. He carries two black cleavers called Stormjaw, picks fights worth remembering, laughs when smarter men would back down, and possesses the kind of ego that treats overwhelming power less like a warning and more like an invitation. Then he meets the Throne Holder. Aurik. Zorren expects the greatest fight of his life. Instead, Aurik humiliates him. Publicly. Completely. The man who walked into the room convinced nothing stood above him is put on the floor by someone who barely needs to prove that he does. Zorren survives. His ego doesn’t. What gets back up in its place is pride with somewhere to go. Ten Cores. One Throne. And a road full of Apexes standing between Zorren and the bastard who showed him exactly how far beneath the summit he really was. So Zorren starts climbing. Not to save the people beneath the Apexes. Not to become a better ruler. Not because anyone chose him. He climbs because the world put something above him, and Zorren cannot leave that insult unanswered. Every fight leaves proof behind. Broken ground. New scars. Fallen names. Stories that reach the next territory before he does. And as Zorren keeps climbing, the world is forced toward a question it was never built to answer: If power is what put you above everyone else, what happens when someone stronger refuses to stay beneath you? Then everything above him has a choice. Prove it. Or fall.
