After twenty-eight years of development, Aki and his team finally enter the fantasy game they created. Then a wrecking ball destroys the system meant to bring them home. Scattered across their own world in unfamiliar bodies, the developers are forced to survive the rules they once treated as code. Aki awakens as a low-level fruit bat with a powerful Bloodfeeder trait-and a hunger that steadily strips away his self-control. Elsewhere, his friends inherit new lives, dangerous abilities, and mysteries none of them remember designing. To find one another, they'll have to master the game before its monsters, politics, and hidden powers consume them. But for Aki, survival carries a worse question: How much of himself can he lose before he becomes just another creature players were meant to kill?
