When a promising young apprentice is assigned to study under a wizard known more for his failures than his accomplishments, she expects to learn everything not to do. Instead, she quickly discovers there may be more to her new master—and his questionable methods—than his reputation suggests. Together, they travel from one magical disaster to the next, encountering troublesome creatures, questionable spells, dangerous assignments, and problems that somehow become worse whenever they try to fix them. All the while, the apprentice diligently records her master's unconventional lessons in her journal. His most important lesson? Read the book. Take notes on the book. Break the magic irresponsibly. Throw out the book.
