Lin Yao is a prisoner waiting to be executed. He has already accepted that his life is over. Then he has a strange dream. A voice tells him that he has been chosen for something called the Trial of the Dead. If he accepts, he will be reborn in another world with no memories and given a chance to become one of the Dead. Lin Yao doesn't understand why he was chosen. Neither does the officer who is about to execute him. After all, Lin Yao is just a prisoner—a man known as the Jester. Still, he accepts the trial. Now, with a cigarette between his fingers and the execution chair waiting for him, Lin Yao has one last question: Why did they choose him?
