Aurelius Winterhold, known to most as Leo, has encountered his fair share of strange creatures since arriving in Seattle. But when an investigation leads him deep into the North Cascades, he finds himself descending into a darkness far older than he expected. Workers at a remote mining operation have reported strange noises, unbearable smells and disappearances within the mountain. The police believe the missing miners were victims of a series of cave-ins, but the owner of the site isn't convinced. Determined to uncover the truth, Leo ventures into the abandoned tunnels. What he finds lurking beneath the mountain is far worse than anyone imagined. As Leo battles creatures hidden in the darkness and fights for survival against a monstrous force capable of bringing the entire cave system down around him, he discovers something else. An ancient door. Covered in strange markings. And whatever lies beyond it may be far more significant than anything Leo has encountered before. Some secrets are buried for a reason. The question is whether they should ever be uncovered.
