On an ordinary morning at a high school in America, seventeen-year-old Alex is just trying to make it through another day of tests, cafeteria food, and banter with her friends, Zack and Juan. But the routine shatters when two unsettling girls enter the lunchroom. In the wake of the blast, Alex and her friends wake up transformed. They can now see what others cannot: the glowing light of human spirits and the jagged, dark static wrapping around the infected. Realizing they have awakened as "Holders"—individuals capable of perceiving and sensing raw life energy—the three friends must adapt to their new vision while navigating a crumbling world. Armed with their new sight, a shared bond, and a sharp desire for vengeance, Alex, Zack, and Juan set out on a journey across a ruined landscape to uncover the truth behind the phenomenon and track down the two mysterious girls who started the apocalypse.
