Humanity thought it knew what an apocalypse would look like. For millennia, it had imagined its own end and told stories of the many forms it might take. Myths spoke of divine wrath and plagues, religions foretold the end of days, and stories told of monsters, wars, or the collapse of civilizations. It was wrong. As the world it knew begins to collapse, death strikes indiscriminately and the old rules gradually cease to make sense. Yet those who manage to survive discover something unexpected. They can change too. Grow stronger. Adapt to this new world instead of simply enduring it. Kael is just one of them. He has no answers and no special advantage, only the need to keep moving through a world he no longer recognizes and understand what is happening to him before it overwhelms him completely. But the more humanity learns to survive, the harder one contradiction becomes to ignore. If this apocalypse was really meant to wipe humanity out, why give people the means to adapt to it?
