What’s a failed actor scraping by on sporadic gigs for a company that stages pranks to do when he learns he’s terminally ill? Accept an audacious assignment from a powerful businessman, of course. The plan is to send the businessman’s partner to prison by provoking him into murder—and capturing the killing on camera. There’s just one condition: the death has to be real. Otherwise, the partner won’t go to prison. To secure his daughter’s future, the hapless actor plays his final, fateful role. But events soon spiral out of control, taking a very different turn from the one the characters had in mind. This intricately plotted novel echoes the best of Guy Ritchie’s early films. Or is there no such thing as coincidence, with the entire chain of events unfolding according to a carefully crafted script?
