Avon Allets always knew he was different. Reclusive, awkward, and unable to connect with the other children at the shelter, he spent his life trying to go unnoticed. Until the night the place where he grew up was reduced to ash and blood. Amidst the massacre, Avon discovers that the only other survivor isn't exactly what they seem. And, for the first time, a strange voice echoes inside his head—a voice no ordinary human should be able to hear.
