Humanity survived the end of the world. It just didn’t survive unchanged. After the Fall, the last remnants of civilization found refuge in Asterfall, where survival now revolves around the System. At seventeen, every survivor Awakens—receiving a Class, abilities, and a path that could determine whether they become a Raider, a protector, or another name added to the dead. Dean Mercer expects his Awakening to give him the same thing everyone else gets. It doesn’t. While his best friend becomes a Bastion and others discover powerful Classes of their own, Dean receives a single answer: Unassigned. But something inside the System has noticed him. Something hidden. As Dean trains to survive, ventures into the ruins of Earth, and faces creatures that have turned humanity’s former home into a hunting ground, strange abilities begin surfacing—abilities that don’t seem to follow the rules everyone else lives by. Researchers want answers. Veteran Raiders know more than they’re saying. And somewhere behind the System lies a buried connection to the Rift itself. Dean may not have been given a Class. He may have been given something far more dangerous. Rift Shadow is a dark post-apocalyptic LitRPG filled with Classes, leveling, brutal combat, ruined Earth raid zones, evolving abilities, AI mysteries, and a protagonist whose path was never supposed to exist.
