Julian Tlhapi is a brilliant, hyper-cynical advocate at the top of Johannesburg’s corporate and criminal legal world. Exhausted by high-stakes litigation, he seeks a quiet retreat in the Drakensberg mountains, only for an violent spike of adrenaline to trigger a catastrophic temporal displacement. Swept back to the 1660s Cape coastline, Julian lands in the middle of a deadly colonial trade standoff between Dutch East India Company sailors and Khoekhoe pastoralists. Survival leaves him with only one weapon: his mastery of law, procedural fraud, and forensic deduction. As Julian realizes that his physical aging has frozen permanently at thirty-four, he begins navigating three hundred years of South African legal and political history. Across five distinct eras—from the early VOC enclaves of the 17th century to the 1890s Kimberley diamond rush, the 1950s Sophiatown resistance, and the modern constitutional court—Julian becomes an invisible pillar of justice. He defends marginalized figures, leaves hidden "temporal seeds" in frontier land deeds, and runs subterranean legal clinics. However, Julian’s long footprint does not go unnoticed. He becomes locked in a bitter, multi-generational war against the Van Hout family line—starting with Fiscal Pieter van Hout in 1660 and echoing through his descendants across three centuries of colonial and apartheid authority. Meanwhile, in 2026, Julian’s parents, Arthur and Eleanor, initiate a relentless, decades-spanning search operation that slowly unearths centuries-old legal artifacts, courtroom sketches, and land ledgers bearing their missing son’s modern signature. To survive and return home, Julian must execute a single, 300-year-long legal master strategy that bridges every era he has touched, ultimately pitting his immortal legacy against the ultimate question of justice, time, and human endurance.
