Three hundred years after the world ended, humanity has found something worth living for.
Speed.
In the wastelands of Aureia, civilization has clawed its way back from the ashes of a world war that nearly destroyed everything. Cities have risen from the ruins. Nations have returned. Technology has advanced in a direction no one could have predicted, and cars have become the lifeblood of civilization. Trade routes stretch across endless wastelands, carrying food, fuel, weapons, and everything else humanity needs to survive. Protecting those shipments are the Runners—elite drivers who turn their vehicles into weapons and their skills behind the wheel into a matter of life and death, but among all the routes scattered across the world, there is one that stands above the rest. A route so deadly that a single run nearly claimed the lives of an entire team, and earned itself a name. The Gauntlet.
Every year, the five most powerful factions send their best drivers to compete in the most dangerous race in the world. Ten cars enter. Only one can finish first. The prize? Half of all trade revenue between the five nations. For the Argon Faction, however, things have been looking grim. They have lost year after year, for the last ten years, becoming the laughingstock of the racing world.
Then comes Arren Peretti. Young, reckless, and obsessed with racing, Arren has spent his entire life dreaming of getting behind the wheel of a true Runner. His dream seems impossible, until he discovers something buried beneath a mountain of scrap in a forgotten junkyard. An old car, one unlike anything he's ever seen. With the help of his friends, Arren begins rebuilding it piece by piece, unaware that he's uncovering something far more valuable than a forgotten automobile.
Because the car's history is connected to the greatest Runner who ever lived. James Arissto, the man who conquered the Gauntlet when no one else could, and then disappeared without a trace. Now, with the world's eyes watching, Arren is about to enter the race that has claimed countless lives.
Ten drivers.
One impossible road.
And a machine built for speed.
The Gauntlet is waiting.
