In Zimbabwe, sixteen powerful clans have shaped the nation for generations. Every four years, their chosen successors gather at Kudenga Kwashe High School, where they must survive ten brutal challenges of strength, intelligence, and teamwork. Only eight clans will advance to the legendary tournament that determines the next Mambo, the supreme ruler of Zimbabwe Sixteen-year-old Kudakwashe Chiedza never cared about clans, power, or politics. Raised by his mother in the suburbs, he knows only that his father abandoned them before he was born. But his father was no ordinary man. He was the previous Mambo. After his father's death, a summons arrives at the boy's doorstep, calling him to represent the very clan that never accepted him. An illegitimate son. A clan that doesn't want him. A half-brother who despises him. And a throne waiting for whoever can claim it. For Kudakwashe, the goal is simple: win the prize money, become Mambo, and give his mother the life she deserves. But as the competition begins, he discovers that the world his father left behind is far more complicated than he ever imagined. Sixteen clans. Eight survivors. One crown. And the boy who was born crownless intends to take it.
