Blood of the Living: The Curse

By day, he is a samurai. By night, he becomes something else. Akihara Ren has spent years serving as a samurai under Lord Masanori, carefully hiding a recent secret that could cost him everything. When the sun sets, Ren changes. A curse has left him with a thirst for blood, unnatural strength, and a growing fear that the monster inside him may one day take control. But Ren's curse is more than it seems. In a land torn apart by war, where ancient creatures hide in the shadows and humanity knows little of what lurks beyond its walls, Ren will be forced to confront a world he never knew existed, and the truth behind what he has become. What to Expect Blood of the Living is a dark fantasy story set in a fictionalized feudal-Japan-inspired world of samurai, warlords, wandering warriors, and supernatural creatures. The story follows a cursed samurai who lives two lives. A human during the day and a vampire during the night. Expect a story where actions have consequences, characters can be injured or killed, and Ren's struggle to maintain his humanity will become increasingly difficult as the story progresses. Expect: 1. A combat-capable protagonist 2. Detailed sword fights and supernatural combat 3. A gradual power progression 4. A mystery surrounding Ren's curse 5. Human and vampire conflict 6. Character development and relationships 7. Psychological conflict and moral ambiguity 8. Blood, graphic violence, and darker themes 9. Consequences that matter This is not intended to be a pure action story. There will be plenty of sword fights, vampire battles, assassinations, escapes, and other violent encounters, but the story will also spend time exploring Ren's life, his relationships, his mental state, and the consequences of being something that doesn't completely belong to either the human or vampire world. The mystery surrounding his curse is a major part of the story. Some answer will come quickly, others may take much longer.
