Five billion people live on the planet. Twenty years ago, there were eight billion. The number keeps falling.
An international project offers the last way out: extract the human mind and send it aboard a ship toward a planet capable of sustaining life. The mind is not copied. It is extracted. Once. What travels inside the capsule is everything that person is. There are no duplicates. There is no backup of the backup.
A religious leader unleashes chaos after being rejected by the project. Of the more than three hundred million backups completed, only one thousand eight hundred and twenty-one make it onto a ship that launches without authorization.
A thousand years later, the ship lands. The first bodies wake up. And what they find is not what they expected.
Nothing is.
Renaissance: The Genesis Chapter (Symphony of Light) is the first volume of the series. A science fiction novel about identity, memory, and a question only the reader can answer: whether what woke up on that planet is still the person it used to be, or something else that only remembers being one.
