Awakening

In the course of one day, Zattarri Sylvius’ life is changed forever.  His sanctuary is destroyed by his nemesis Breckon Halston, the town bully, orcs interrupt the destruction with carnage of their own, his father is killed by the orcs, Zattarri is told that he is a mage, and Queryon Lux, the most famous earth mage in Mystica tells Zattarri that he needs to find a teacher to learn to control his magic.  The catch, Queryon says only the elves can teach Zattarri what he needs to know, but elves don’t exist. To make matters worse, as they set out, Breckon stumbles back into the picture, and Queryon decides to bring him along.  Thankfully they leave Breckon at the Warrior’s Guild next to the famed academy Earthcore, but that brings small comfort as Zattarri is thrust into a world that no one knew existed to win the trust of beings that only existed in fairytales until recently.  Now, Zattarri is caught up in a struggle that is both new and a thousand years old, and the only way to win the trust and respect of the elves is to complete quests that have already claimed the lives of a dozen other humans.  Both Breckon and Zattarri must leave behind the lives that they knew to forge a path for themselves in the world, but the past has a way of coming back haunt the present.  Will Breckon become the warrior that he dreams of being, or will he follow the path laid out for him by his father?  Will Zattarri find the skills he needs to succeed or will he become the next victim in an age old struggle that he had no desire to be thrust into in the first place?
