Legionnaire(The Second Multiverse)

Patrick Scott has spent years learning to live with an inconvenient truth: he may never become a superhuman. In a world where extraordinary abilities can make a hero famous, Patrick has nothing but peak-human conditioning, Roman combat training, legal knowledge, and an unwavering sense of duty. By day, he works quietly behind the bar at a Murray Hill tap house alongside his Hindu wife, Salya, carefully maintaining the illusion that his perpetually nineteen-year-old appearance is merely a lingering effect of the old age-regression illness. His closest allies—Salya and his marine-biologist friend Joshua—help cover for the sudden disappearances that come whenever Midtown needs its protector. By night, Patrick becomes Legionnaire, a Roman-inspired vigilante who patrols Midtown Manhattan. His latest challenge is the Tallymen, a powerful criminal syndicate whose masked mercenaries are beginning to infiltrate the city. When a squad of the Tallymen’s “Masks” attacks Murray Hill, Legionnaire intervenes, defeating their operatives through skill rather than superpowers. His interrogation of the captured mercenaries reveals something more disturbing: the attack is only one piece of a larger campaign. As the Masks spread across Midtown, Patrick finds himself drawn deeper into the conspiracy. Intelligence points toward coordinated strikes against critical infrastructure, suggesting that the Tallymen intend to establish a permanent foothold in Manhattan. A crisis meeting high above the city in the Empire State Building confirms his suspicions. Mayor Brad Elron may treat the gathering as casually as his private smoking lounge, but Patrick understands the stakes. With Joshua monitoring the streets and Salya protecting his civilian identity, Legionnaire launches a counteroffensive. Armed with Roman-style knives, tactical armor, and the discipline of a soldier, he intercepts a high-ranking Mask contingent attempting to sabotage Midtown’s electrical grid. The confrontation culminates in a brutal alleyway battle against the commander of the Masks. Outnumbered and lacking the supernatural abilities that define many of the city’s heroes, Patrick fights with precision, endurance, and sheer determination. Every strike reinforces the principle that has guided him all along: a hero’s worth is not measured by the powers they possess, but by the choices they make when no one is watching. Patrick’s younger brother, Vincent Scott—known as Igana—has become a celebrated judicial savior in Lower Manhattan, while former sidekick Daven Arlen, Centurion, has withdrawn to the northern Bronx. Patrick refuses to pull either man back into his own dangerous battles. Even his irritating cousin Carter Englis, Geko, cannot distract him from the responsibility he has chosen. When the Tallymen’s Midtown operation finally collapses, Patrick returns to the tap house and resumes his ordinary life. Salya teases him about another exhausting shift, Joshua shares another bizarre fact about squid, and Midtown settles into uneasy peace. For Patrick Scott, there is no glory waiting at the end of the night—only another duty to fulfill. Non Gloria, Non Mors. Officium. No glory. No death. Duty.
