In a world ruled by kings, nobles, soldiers, and ancient traditions, a young boy is given a second chance at life. Edric remembers nothing about his previous life that he is willing to share with anyone. What remains is a single conviction: he will never be powerless again. Born into a quiet medieval village, Edric soon discovers that he possesses a mysterious ability known as Echo. By using it, he can perfectly acquire a single ability from another person—but only once each day, and only one ability at a time. His young body, however, cannot immediately express everything he acquires. At first, Echo is nothing more than a secret that might help him survive. Edric carefully studies the people around him, choosing abilities that can strengthen his body, sharpen his senses, improve his combat skills, and eventually help him understand the dangerous world beyond his village. He learns to hide his true capabilities, allowing others to see him as merely talented rather than something extraordinary. But the world around him refuses to remain peaceful. A strange symbol appears on an ancient stone. A mysterious entrance suddenly emerges in the wilderness. Men searching for the ruins arrive at his village, and trained soldiers return wounded after encountering creatures they cannot identify. More importantly, some of these strangers already know Edric's name. As Edric grows older, his journey takes him far beyond the quiet life he once knew. He becomes a warrior, encounters corruption and injustice, and gradually realizes that personal strength alone cannot change a broken kingdom. The stronger he becomes, the more clearly he sees the forces competing for power around him. His path will eventually lead him from survival to warfare, from warfare to leadership, and from leadership toward the throne itself. Along the way, Edric will have to make difficult choices about whom to trust, what kind of ruler he wants to become, and how much he is willing to sacrifice to achieve his ambitions. His greatest advantage is Echo. But Echo is not the only mystery waiting for him. Across the continent lie ancient ruins, forgotten histories, unexplained symbols, and remnants of a past that even the greatest scholars understand poorly. As Edric's influence grows, these mysteries become increasingly difficult to ignore. What begins as the story of a boy determined to become strong gradually becomes the story of a man who must decide what to do with that strength once the world starts placing its future in his hands. The Echo King is a long-form medieval fantasy about second chances, ambition, warfare, leadership, political power, and the pursuit of something beyond the boundaries of the known world.
