In the southern domain of the Frozen Gods, Moses was fated to die before birth. His mother and he escape to the north, with the help of the Queen and her hollow-eyed son, Dustan, but not before he witnesses the prince's transformation into a Beast that feeds without feeling. Years pass, and Moses has built a new life within the Kinship Spiral and has learned to smile again. But he is haunted by a pull in his chest and a recurring nightmare of a Beast with the prince's voice. Little does he know, Dustan dreams too, of a silver fawn he prays will escape him, but it never does, and that the south he fled has only grown crueler since he vanished. When Dustan breaks through the Beast and begs for forgiveness, Moses decides to stop waiting for the tether to fade. He will go south and save him. He does not yet understand what awaits him there.
