Kai Bennett never cared much for anyone but himself. His career came first. His relationships came second. Everyone else's problems were just that—everyone else's. Then one day, after losing his job, Kai walks into a bank to cash his final paycheck. He never walks back out. A robbery gone wrong leaves Kai bleeding on the floor, and when he opens his eyes again, he finds himself standing before a strange court beyond death. Sitting behind the judge's bench is a massive owl-like creature known as the Strix. Kai expects judgment. What he receives is something far worse. He is sentenced to become a Revenant. Bound to a mysterious bank somewhere between life and death, Kai is given a single task: open the Revenant's Ledger and relive the final moments of those who died at the hands of another. Then he must decide what happens to the person who killed them. Damnation. Or forgiveness. For the first time in his life, Kai is forced to care about someone other than himself. Every name in the Ledger carries a story. Some are monsters. Some are victims. Some are both. And the more deaths Kai experiences, the harder it becomes to decide who truly deserves punishment. But there is one problem Kai wasn't prepared for. The Ledger contains thousands of years of deaths. And his sentence doesn't end until every last account has been settled.
