BREACHSPACE is a setting I return to for exploring ideas. Strange mysteries. Macabre entities. Impossible places. Brief encounters with people and things that might otherwise remain only fragments of an imaginary world. BREACHSPACE: Slivers is a collection of thirty flash fiction pieces: small glimpses into that world, each one offering a moment, a character, a place, or an idea before moving on. Some are unsettling. Some are strange. Some are little more than a glimpse through a crack in reality. These stories were originally written in June 2012 as part of NaFicWriMo, a month-long flash-fiction challenge hosted by Ficly.com. The challenge called for one piece of flash fiction each day in June, with each story restricted to 1,024 characters. More than a decade later, I'm bringing these little fragments back to life on Royal Road. I'm increasingly tempted to return to this collection, as each Sliver is a potential narrative seed—something that might someday inspire a longer short story, novella, or even a novel. What to Expect ➤ Format: Generally around 200 words each. ➤ Tone: Strange, dark, whimsical, unsettling, and occasionally absurd. Expect variety. ➤ Worldbuilding: Details are intentionally sparse. These are fragments of a much larger world. ➤ Reading Experience: Dip in and out, or read them all in sequence. There is no required order.
