In the Dead Mountains neither the living nor the dead ever rest. Bound by an ancient curse, every soul on the mountain is bound to eternally serve the Lich Arctothrexus. Phil is a shepherd, and when his mother’s skeleton steps out of her still cooling body, he’s had enough. He seeks the power of the gods, willing to tie himself to any divine being if they will only give him the power to undo this curse. He didn’t expect Erythcia, goddess of Love to select him. She placed within him a fragment of her power and sent him out into the world with instructions to “be yourself, help people.” Phil doesn’t have cosmic powers, no magic swords, what he has is compassion. He can see the person under the monster, and if he has the courage to listen sometimes the undead crumble into peaceful dust. Curses begin to come apart as their victims confront the lies they have been telling themselves for ages. Yet with each act of mercy Phil is drawn into a deeper conflict he can’t hope to understand. The god of Literature WANTS stories. He wants tragedies, and having characters writing their own stories is unacceptable. His agent, The Man in Orange, is on Phil’s trail. Will Phil be able to write his own future, can he help an 800 year old vampire undo the tragedy of her life and restore her to the Paladin she once was? Or will the God of Literature get another tragedy?
