The chapter begins with the Guardian Rite at the Eagle estate, where twelve‑year‑old Orin, once a slave, is bound as guardian to young Richard, heir of the house. The ritual is harsh and binding, marked by blood, sigils, and dragon essence, but the bond proves genuine when Richard’s trust softens Orin’s resolve. The High Seer declares: “The bond is true. The heir is not alone.” Parallel to this, Daniel Silverstream harvests souls under the Blood Moon, trapping them in Ascendant and Sovereign Gems. Rex fuses these into a suit of armor made of dwarven steel, dragon bone, and dire beast blood. The armor becomes alive with grief and whispers, unsettling apprentices. Richard alone hears its sorrow, hinting at his unique sensitivity to the bound souls. The household continues its rhythms: apprentices reinforce wards, guards patrol nervously, and workers tend the orchards. Richard, though only six, already carries silence as an inheritance, walking the halls with his toy eagle. Orin, newly bound, shadows him with quiet certainty. The twins and Selene are present in the household’s life — the twins born in summer, Selene in spring — their ages marking continuity in the family’s timeline. Their mother, Liraen, is shown as compassionate and sorrowful, watching her daughter’s innocence fade too soon and later offering quiet presence to Richard in his grief. Months later, Rex’s ambition leads to tragedy. He attempts to use his dragon familiars — Umbren the Black Dragon and Selvra the Silver Dragon — to strengthen his frail infant son. The ritual fails catastrophically, killing the child and destroying the familiars. Richard discovers his brother’s body, traumatized by grief. Liraen witnesses his sorrow and offers gentle words, anchoring him in compassion. The cycle of loss deepens when Rex’s wife dies after consuming his experimental draughts. Richard finds her lifeless, echoing the earlier tragedy. His grief unravels him further, while the household grows wary of Rex’s relentless ambition. Finally, Rex and Daniel perform a secret ritual on Richard himself, using the remnants of the familiars’ essence. Richard’s soul is drawn out but returned, leaving him seemingly unharmed — though Orin senses the disturbance.

Both levers trail the field
Traffic and conversion are both below comparable stories. Cadence is the first lever — stories posting near-daily reached 25 followers 17% of the time; stories posting every few days almost never did. Get the flow going, then re-check conversion.
