In the shattered world of Aetheria, five Gods died in a war that broke reality into three floating realms — and the world has spent centuries waiting for their successors to rise. Kyrian Draven is not one of them. At least, that's what everyone believes. When his Soul Core reads Zero Resonance — a result the city has no real name for — Kyrian is branded "Hollow," cast out of every academy and guild, and left to scrape by on the docks of Veyrmoor while the world moves on without him. But Zero was never the truth. Kyrian doesn't wield Aether like everyone else — he devours shadows, tearing fragments of memory, power, and self from the darkness cast by the living. Every fragment he consumes leaves something behind: a stranger's grief, a stolen instinct, a piece of someone else lodged permanently inside him. As a cryptic System awakens inside his mind — revealing only that his bloodline is Forbidden, and refusing to say why — Kyrian must learn to control a power that grows more dangerous the more he uses it, all while hiding it from a world that fears the word "Shadow" for reasons buried since the war that killed the Gods. Because Kyrian isn't just Forbidden. He's the last hidden heir of Morvane, the God of Death and Shadow — the God history remembers as a monster, who orchestrated his own death and the deaths of his four companions in a plan no one has ever understood. As Kyrian rises through the ranks of power — Faint Pulse to Godhood, obscurity to Divine Authority — he'll cross paths with the four other successors born to inherit War, Thunder, Light, and Earth, uncover a conspiracy the world has spent centuries burying, and confront the one question that haunts every fragment he's ever consumed: If he becomes strong enough to inherit a dead God's throne, how much of himself will be left to sit on it?
