Sven managed a comic book shop. Now he’s a Voidmancer trapped in an interdimensional death game with a talking maintenance manual, a fantasy nerd who is having entirely too much fun, and a growing collection of people who probably shouldn’t be allowed to operate heavy machinery. Earth, meanwhile, is screwed. Humanity has been pulled into the Portal-Cycle, a sprawling fantasy game where survival means killing monsters, gaining levels, and following a truly astonishing number of rules. Survive the Cycle, and Earth might get another chance. At least, that’s what Sven has been told. At first, the job seems straightforward enough. Fight monsters. Get stronger. Keep everyone alive. Find the exit. Then Sven starts asking questions. Why does nobody seem to know who actually runs the Portal-Cycle? Why are civilizations trapped inside it? Why does a supposedly all-powerful system need so much paperwork? And why does the universe’s bureaucracy increasingly resemble something held together with duct tape, outdated regulations, and employees desperately hoping nobody asks to speak to a supervisor? Unfortunately for the universe, Sven spent years managing a comic book shop. He knows exactly what incompetent management looks like. And somewhere beneath the monsters, levels, quests, and cosmic red tape, Sven is beginning to suspect something much bigger is broken. Saving Earth was supposed to be the hard part. It might turn out to be the easy one. What To Expect: LitRPG progression with classes, levels, skills, quests, monsters, loot, and system messages without drowning the story in stat sheets. A first-person protagonist whose greatest qualification for saving humanity may be years spent dealing with unreasonable customers. A dysfunctional adventuring party including Sven’s relentlessly enthusiastic best friend Simmons, a tiny Titanbound named Fiscar, and a sentient maintenance manual that knows far more than it initially lets on. Comedy built around fantasy tropes, bureaucracy, cosmic incompetence, and people attempting to understand rules that were apparently designed by lunatics. A growing mystery surrounding the Portal-Cycle, who created it, why it exists, and whether anyone is actually in control. Genuine stakes beneath the humor. People die, choices matter, and Sven’s patience with the system has limits. Progression from surviving the game to questioning the game—and eventually wondering whether humanity should be playing by its rules at all. No harem. Plenty of monsters. Far too much paperwork.
