Sixteen-year-old Alba Fortuna Rius seems to have everything figured out. Bright, confident, popular, and effortlessly exceptional at school, she has grown accustomed to being praised for nearly everything she does. Beneath that confidence, however, Alba has quietly tied much of her self-worth to being talented and successful. That certainty is challenged when she discovers something she isn’t naturally good at: writing. Inspired partly by her love of romance and an idealized crush on a boy at school, Alba begins writing stories, only to grow frustrated by the empty praise she receives from most of her friends. Her best friend, Fidela, is the one person willing to genuinely criticize her work. Rather than give up, Alba becomes stubbornly determined to master writing too—setting her on a much more personal journey than she initially realizes.
