For millions of years, the Immortals have watched over Earth from the shadows. When demons first returned to the world of mankind, the Immortals created the Perpetuals, immortal warriors gifted with elemental powers and sworn to defend humanity. Now, ten Perpetuals stand between Earth and the forces of Hell. Raphael Morgenstern Inferno, the Fire Perpetual and leader of the group, is accustomed to carrying the weight of protecting his family and his world. But when a dying Daityaus warns that the fallen Immortal Torouza will return, the Perpetuals uncover evidence of an ancient rebellion that was deliberately erased from history. Soon afterward, a demon named Denzine arrives seeking sanctuary from the princes of Hell. In exchange, he offers the Perpetuals a way into the heart of the Infernal realm. But Hell's forces are already moving. When Lucian Nightingale Fatal secretly seeks a dangerous cure for a demonic venom, he is captured by Ganfol de Aunth, leader of the Wild War, a powerful faction of demon and faerie warriors. The Perpetuals discover that Ganfol is the son of Asmod, the legendary Seraph Slayer, and that their enemy Vondergarnester is behind Lucian's abduction. With only days remaining before their journey to Hell, Raphael and the remaining Perpetuals must prepare Aryan for a world he was never meant to see. Armed with Majyk and ancient weapons, they prepare to cross into the realms of Hell and confront forces far older than humanity. But the deeper they dig into the forgotten history of the Immortals, the more they realise that the war they are preparing for may have begun long before they were ever born. And somewhere beyond the mortal world, something that was supposed to be dead is waiting to return.
