Everyone else got monsters and magic. Eli Thorne got root access. When the world crashed, it didn't reboot clean. Reality runs on dead developers' code now — buggy, monster-ridden, held together with duct tape and prayer. Eli Thorne is a burned-out sysadmin who just wanted to be left alone. When the dying system offers him power, he turns it down — and gets an admin login instead, with a broken world to debug. But the system runs on intent, and the strongest force in it is the people who tend it: a wife who fixes souls the way he fixes servers, a daughter who sees every path, a goldendoodle whose only job is to keep everybody. And something is coming up the road that doesn't fix the lost. It takes them. Bad things happen here. But the coffee's always on, the door's always open, and nobody fights alone. ---The trilogy is complete — Book One launches with 20k words and updates daily, no hiatus risk. For readers of Beware of Chicken and BOFH who want the heart turned all the way up. A note on how this was made. Reality Upgrade was written with AI, and not a little of it. The world, the people, and everything that happens to them came from me. The sentences were drafted by a language model under line-by-line direction, then rewritten, checked, and checked again by hand until they read like what I meant. I'm telling you this because you deserve to know what you're reading, and because I'd rather be the one who tells you. I think the story holds up. That part is yours to judge.
