Himura Yuki is a completely normal high school girl. She does well in school, keeps her room tidy, and spends her weekends carefully painting miniature military figurines because she thinks the details are really interesting. That's it. That's the whole list. There is genuinely nothing unusual about her whatsoever. When her best friend drags her into Ethereal Conquest Online — a brand new fantasy VRMMO that Yuki has never heard of and knows absolutely nothing about — she approaches it the same way she approaches everything else: methodically. She reads the manual cover to cover before touching anything. She picks the first class on the list without reading the description. And then, purely out of habit, she clicks through every single sub-menu one by one just to see what's there.Six layers deep, she finds something that was never supposed to be there. She buys it immediately. It looks really cool and the craftsmanship is excellent.Three hours later, the developer team is in an emergency Slack call trying to figure out how a new player just set an impossible stealth record on her very first quest. Then she does it again on her second quest. And her third. Every dungeon she enters gets completed with a perfect stealth rating. Every boss she fights goes down solo. Every zone she passes through gets cleared like it was never a challenge to begin with — and nobody, not a single player on the entire server, has ever actually seen her do it.Because there are never any witnesses. The server calls her The Ghost. Forum threads about her have hundreds of pages. The top guild is offering a hundred thousand gold just to find out who she is. The developer team has created a private Slack channel dedicated entirely to monitoring her activity and questioning their life choices. Seasoned players with thousands of hours are losing their minds trying to figure out her build, her strategy, her secret.Yuki doesn't know about any of this. She turned off the server notifications on her first login because they were in the way. She doesn't read the forums. She doesn't talk to other players. She just logs in every evening after homework, does her quests, admires the armor textures, and goes to bed at a reasonable hour. She does think it's a little odd that the game keeps giving her five stars on stealth, though. She's not being particularly sneaky. She's just doing what makes sense. Apparently, stealth is optional.
