The jungles of Lustria are an evergreen hellscape, where danger lurks behind every tree, within every cave, and in the murky waters of every river. It is where the very air is deadly, so hot and humid that a man could easily perish to the mundanity of heat stroke and exhaustion. It is where the lizard-men build great stone temples, worship ancient gods, and ride monstrous scaled beasts that you, dear reader, could rightfully call dinosaurs. The land, the flora, and the fauna are all murderous, and yet, it is here that we find the Cathayan woman who calls herself Li, lost so very far from home. Fortunately for Li, she is not alone. While Lustria is infamous for its dangers, it is just as well known for its riches. By greed of gold, humans have been making the perilous journey from the Old World to the New, ever in search of their fortune. It is here, in the shadow of the mountain range known to the natives as the Spine of Sotek, that one such group of so-called adventurers, in search of gold and knowledge, has an unexpected encounter. This is a rewrite of my work of the same name, originally posted on SpaceBattles. This is a Warhammer fanfiction. It has been written such that the reader does not need prior knowledge of Warhammer to read this story. The characters and settings of Warhammer, Warhammer Fantasy, and Warhammer Fantasy Battles are owned by Games Workshop. I make no claim to them. Cover art by AspEv.
