Everyone goes to school. Almost no one actually goes to school. In Minoru's world, students attend class through APAs—humanoid robotic bodies they control remotely from home. The classroom is full every morning. Yet Minoru is the only student physically sitting there. While his classmates speak through artificial faces and experience school from behind a screen, Minoru continues living the ordinary student life everyone else has abandoned. He expects his final year to be just as uneventful as the ones before it. It isn't. As he begins interacting with the people behind the APAs, Minoru slowly discovers that distance can hide more than a face—and that some of his classmates may be longing for a real connection more than they are willing to admit. In a school filled with robotic bodies, being human might make Minoru the strangest student of them all.
