THE AUTHOR'S DECLARATION Here beginneth a recounting of the apprenticeship I undertook in the service of Merlin: enchanter, physician, prophet, counsellor to King Arthur, and Administrator of the Royal Systems. I solemnly declare this account, which I have undertaken to write for the purposes of remembrance and instruction, faithful to my memory of the events and to any records concerning them. Where possible and demonstrative, I have reproduced the administrative records directly from the hoards accessible to me or to clerks under my review, for to make visible the true shape of the labour performed in the Tower.
