Patch Notes & Potato Soup: A Cozy Apocalyptic LitRPG

Patch Notes & Potato Soup: A Cozy Apocalyptic LitRPG

The System gave him Level -10.0.Arthur Vance has an eight-hundred-pound South Bend lathe and a pot of potato soup. He’ll make do. Arthur wanted a quiet retirement. Then the System integrated Earth, wiped out every positive number on his character sheet, and classified him with an impossible [System Deficit]. Now his failing Manhattan diner is slowly sinking toward a frozen subway tunnel. Municipal auditors are preparing to condemn the building. Something beneath the foundation is corrupting the System’s accounting—and, occasionally, the rules of physics along with it. Arthur has three procedures for the apocalypse:Fix the pipes. Feed the furnace. Lock the door. He spent thirty years keeping obsolete industrial machinery and legacy systems alive. He has no legendary class, no instant crafting skill, and absolutely no patience for solving mechanical problems with magic. What he does have is a 1947 South Bend lathe, a six-burner Garland cast-iron range, several tons of questionable plumbing, and the deeply inconvenient fact that his negative System values don't behave the way they're supposed to. Toxic ground becomes usable soil. Lethal forces produce impossible accounting errors. Broken infrastructure keeps generating discrepancies that somehow favor the diner. And every time Arthur finds another loophole buried in the System’s logic, the System becomes a little less certain what, exactly, Arthur Vance is. So Arthur does what an old engineer does when something can't be rebooted. He keeps it running. He builds a thermosiphon greenhouse beneath the floor. Machines high-pressure valves from salvaged steel. Recovers waste heat. Turns potato soup into food, currency, and eventually an economy. And one by one, the frozen machinists, scavengers, cooks, and railway workers outside his door start becoming something dangerously close to a crew. Because underneath the diner sits something much larger than a shelter:MTA locomotive 0882. And Arthur has 280 days before the fractured foundation beneath his building finally gives way. When that day comes, he isn't abandoning the diner. He's welding the whole damn building to the locomotive chassis and taking it with him. Patch Notes & Potato Soup is a slow-burn Cozy Apocalyptic LitRPG about heavy machining, shelter building, thermodynamics, hot food, obsolete infrastructure, found family, and one stubborn old engineer discovering that the best way to fight a broken apocalypse might be basic maintenance. What to Expect: 🔧 Grounded engineering & machining (manual lathes, tolerances, metallurgy) 🥔 Cozy food and survival logistics (hot starch broth, metabolic economics) 🚂 A shelter that eventually needs rails (base-building into a mobile iron ark) 📋 Bureaucratic warfare and System loopholes (exploiting legacy rules) ❌ No instant crafting. No miracle fixes. Everything has to be built.
