Nicolas Watson never asked to be a hero. One moment, he was living an ordinary life on Earth. The next, he awoke in another world surrounded by the bodies of 171 people who had sacrificed themselves to summon him. The people of Aeraya call Nicolas a Chosen—one of the few humans capable of standing against the Darkness, the ancient enemy that returns to plague Velanthar once a century. Nicolas calls it kidnapping. Trapped in a world he barely understands, Nicolas must decide what—if anything—he owes the people who stole his old life to save their own. Then he meets Meredith. Powerful, mysterious, she offers what his summoners refused: A choice. Her only question is simple. What do you desire?
