Ten years ago, a suffocating shadow swept over the earth, triggering The Fall. In a single afternoon, Sam watched the idyllic warmth of his suburban life shatter as half the population mutated into predatory monstrosities known as the Changed. Now, Sacramento is a fortified wasteland of gangs, dwindling rations, and desperate people. Sam scrapes by doing what he does best: surviving missions that leave everyone else dead. Armed only with his Glock, worn-down boots, and a hollowed-out soul, he keeps his head down and does what he's told. That is, until he's given an impossible assignment by a power-hungry benefactor: bring one of the Changed back, alive. Whispers from the East claim the Changed harbor a game-changing secret: a biological catalyst capable of either evolving humanity into further horrors or into something stronger, faster, and untouchable. To step into the cratered wasteland outside the city alone is a death sentence for most. But out in the dark, beneath skies watched by malicious creatures, Sam must confront the nightmares lurking under the sucking mud—and the horrifying truth of what humanity is destined for. What to expect: A gritty, dying world run by the desperate and insane. Chapters should come once a week, give or take, and will follow the protagonist as he navigates both his past and his present. Elements of cultivation and RPG merged with evolution-based progression. This isn't Night City, there are happy endings. Probably.

Both levers trail the field
Traffic and conversion are both below comparable stories. Cadence is the first lever — stories posting near-daily reached 25 followers 17% of the time; stories posting every few days almost never did. Get the flow going, then re-check conversion.
Benchmarks: 8,060 active Royal Road stories, percentiles within the 5–9 chapters band, cohort of 2026-07-02. Conversion is measured as followers gained per 1,000 views lifetime.
