Anatomy of a God Rein Flakes spent his life failing at the one thing he was supposed to be good at. A nurse with a smoking habit he couldn't kick, an addiction he couldn't control, and a track record of mistakes that finally cost him his career — right before it cost him his life. Bleeding out on a street corner after a fight he never should have picked, Rein wakes up in a white void with two doors: face judgement for the man he was, or play — a second chance at something he doesn't understand yet. He chooses play. He gets a decaying room, a blank book that calls itself a Guide, and a new world that wants him dead within the hour. What he doesn't get is a clean slate — the same weak body, the same cravings, the same habit of running his mouth when he should be running away. But something did come through with him: a strange power to see straight through flesh to the bone and blood underneath — the one skill his old life actually gave him, turned into the only thing keeping him alive in this one. Taken in by a frail-looking old hermit who casually slaughters monsters in a single strike, and his silent, sharp-eyed student who trusts him about as far as she can throw him, Rein starts piecing together what "play" actually means — and why an old mage's failed campaign against something called the Cyclops Lord of Eight Destructions might not be as finished as everyone hopes. He's not here to be a hero. He's just trying to survive long enough to become someone worth the second chance he was given.
