For most of my life, I thought demons were just stories. Then one tried to kill me in my bedroom. That was when I learned the truth. Demons are real. Ancient beings with bodies, names, kingdoms, contracts, grudges, and memories stretching back to an age when Hell still had a sun. And somehow, seven of them are sealed inside me. At the center of my soul stands a chained iron door known as the Inner Gate. Something impossibly old waits behind it—something powerful enough that other demons would rather run than face it. When I make my first contract and allow one of those beings to borrow my hand for sixty seconds, everything changes. Demons begin hunting me. The secretive Order of Saint Vesper wants answers. A white-haired demon hunter named Mara Sorn becomes the only person standing between me and forces I barely understand. And the first chain around the Inner Gate has already broken. Now I have to survive a hidden war between demon hunters, ancient bloodlines, infernal factions, contract-bound monsters, and creatures that remember secrets humanity was never supposed to know. But the greatest danger may not be the demons coming for me. It may be the ones already inside. Because every time I open the Gate, I gain a little more of their power. And they gain a little more of me.
