Three years ago, Ahab woke up with nothing. No memories, no name, and just a set of skills too precise to have come from nowhere. He built a life as an assassin in the shadows of Circulara's spires until a job for a client he doesn't fully trust puts him face to face with a warlord who calls him "brother". Lord Malice remembers who Ahab used to be. Ahab doesn't want to. Dragged into a war between a Mage Guild hiding in the ruins beneath Corvus and a darkness that once tore the galaxy apart, Ahab has to decide whether the man he is now is worth protecting or whether the man he used to be was always going to come back for him. The Curse of Identity is Book 1 of a projected 19-book saga about power, family, and the cost of becoming who you're meant to be, whether you want to or not.

Both levers trail the field
Traffic and conversion are both below comparable stories. Cadence is the first lever — stories posting near-daily reached 25 followers 17% of the time; stories posting every few days almost never did. Get the flow going, then re-check conversion.
Benchmarks: 8,060 active Royal Road stories, percentiles within the 10–19 chapters band, cohort of 2026-07-02. Conversion is measured as followers gained per 1,000 views lifetime.
